Check a pest-control company before you book

PestDeck does not claim a company is vetted. Use the official state resource and compare the written treatment scope.

Step 1

Choose your state

Commercial pest-control certification and licensing requirements vary by jurisdiction.

Step 2

Questions to put in writing

Evidence & experience

  • What evidence confirms the pest?
  • Where is the source or entry route?
  • What pest-specific experience does the technician have?
  • Is identification uncertain anywhere?

IPM & treatment

  • What sanitation, exclusion or monitoring is part of the plan?
  • Which pesticide products are proposed, and what are their EPA Registration Numbers?
  • What sites will be treated and why?
  • What alternatives were considered?

Occupants & preparation

  • What must be moved, covered or cleaned?
  • What are the label-based re-entry instructions?
  • What should happen with children, pets, aquariums and food?
  • What should not be done before the visit?

Follow-up & price scope

  • How many visits/follow-ups are included?
  • What exclusion, cleanup or repair is excluded?
  • What triggers retreatment?
  • What exactly does any warranty cover and for how long?

Extra questions for higher-complexity work

Termites: inspection evidence, treatment zone, monitoring, structural limitations and warranty. Bed bugs: inspection confirmation, preparation, follow-up and resistance-aware IPM. Wildlife: species, dependent young, exclusion timing and state/local wildlife law. Mosquito/tick: source reduction and exposure prevention, not spraying alone.

People, pets & environment

Use the least-risk effective step that fits the evidence.

Children & pets

Keep products, baits and treated areas inaccessible as the label directs. Never assume a product is pet- or child-safe because it is sold for home use.

Pollinators & wildlife

Avoid unnecessary broad treatment. Follow label restrictions intended to protect bees, wildlife and other non-target organisms.

Water

Do not dump pesticide into sinks, toilets, storm drains or natural water. Follow label and local disposal directions.

The label is the rule

Use only for labeled pests, sites and application methods. Do not improvise concentrations, mixtures or indoor uses.
